PAX Unplugged is mere weeks away and there will be a lot of games there. One of which appeared in my inbox today and has me intrigued. It is reminiscent of VAST (it even has the same artist) but you play as cute furry creatures. Four animal factions that play differently; whether you want to build up your empire, try to steal other territory, be sneaky with late game surprises, or a combination of the three. Root: A Game of Woodland Might and Right seems like a narrowed down scope of what VAST was and that could be for the better.
It is up on Kickstarter and will be at Leder Games’ booth (1248) at PAX Unplugged. This is definitely a game I will be checking out at the convention. Hit the jump for the press release and link to Kickstarter…

Play as the:
- Marquise de Cat: Establish kitten rule by building your empire and suppressing dissident animals.
- Woodland Alliance: Hatch intriguing conspiracies from hideouts with foxes, rabbits, and mice.
- Eyrie Dynasties: Direct mighty avian armies to crush your foes before turmoil rips through your leadership.
- Vagabond: Stalk through the deep forest, playing the ally or nemesis to suit your own ends.
Each faction has its own play style and paths to victory, providing an immersive game experience you will want to play again and again.
Root is designed by Cole Wehrle (Pax Pamir, Infamous Traffic, and John Company) and brought to life by master illustrator Kyle Ferrin (The Vast series, Stitches).
Cole Wehrle designer of Root explains: “For a long time I have been thinking about making an accessible, interactive strategy game. I wanted something easy to set up, easy to teach, and easy to tear down, but also something that’s able to tell compelling stories and to allow players to explore the world of asymmetric games.”
In Root, players drive the narrative, and the differences between each role create an unparalleled level of interaction and replay ability. Leder Games invites you and your family to explore the fantastic world of Root!
